چکیده

Knowledge space theory was used for mapping students’ knowledge structures in calculating density, mass-percent, molar mass and molar volume. Data were collected among the 9-10 graders (age 15-16) at two different secondary grammar schools. Students’ responses were evaluated in a binary fashion and were used for determining knowledge structures with a systematic trial-and-error process using χ analysis. Based on the students’ knowledge structures, the critical learning pathways, the characteristic hierarchies of concepts and the critical concepts were identified and analysed. In students’ cognitive structure, molar volume is built on the concept of molar mass. With one group there is a strong connection between the concepts of density, molar mass, molar volume and the calculation of gas volume while with the other group there is no such connection. The reason for this disconnected cognitive structure is the difference in the learning method between the two groups. Students from the second school learned the concepts of density, molar mass, molar volume and mass percent by rote-learning using mnemotechnics. This is a good example that rote learning makes the finding of the connections between concepts hard and gives separated and non-mobilizable knowledge. [Chem. Educ. Res. Pract., 2007, 8 (4), 376-389.]

Alcohol oxidation is an important reaction in organic syntheses. Some of these reactions must beunder difficult conditions in respect of high temperature and pressure. In many cases, reactions areconducted by environmentally in appropriate solutions. In this study, preparing an effectivenanocatalyst and estimating the optimum provisions of its production processes are assessed. Twomajor and cru...

Measurement of Selected Thermophysical and Viscosity of Binary Mixtures of Nitromethane with 2-Propanol, 2-Butanol and 2-Pentanol

The density and viscosity values at T= (293.15 to 323.15) K for binary mixtures of nitromethane with 2-propanol, 2-butanol and 2-pentanol were measured over the entire composition range. From the experimental data, excess molar volumes, thermal expansion coefficients, excess thermal expansions, partial molar volumes at infinite dilution and deviations in viscosity were calculated. The results w...

Application of Iron Electrode in Textile Industry Wastewater Treatment Using Electro-fenton Technique: Experimental and Statistical Study

The application of synthetic colors in textile industries and their entry into the water and groundwater is an environmental problem because of being very toxic material. The synthetic colors which are used in textile dyeing (plyacrilic and polyester) are usually dispersing colorants. They derive the azo and anthraquinone chemicals. Electro-Fenton process is an efficient technique which can deg...
